Fed: Impulse launches new service ahead of Virgin

SYDNEY, Aug 27 AAP - Discount carrier Impulse Airlines will begin its Sydney-to-Brisbane
service tomorrow, three days before Virgin Blue's first commercial flight in Australia,
on the same route.

Impulse will operate four return services between the two cities each weekday, doubling
the schedule after September 13, the company said.

The airline sparked an airfare price war when it slashed fares between Sydney and Melbourne
to $66 one way, forcing Qantas and Ansett to follow suit soon after.

Richard Branson's Virgin Blue is offering a $48 one-way fare between Brisbane and Sydney
from August 31 to September 30.

The fare applies to all Virgin seats. The other airlines have matched the fare, but
have limited seats available.

The inaugural Virgin Blue commercial flight will leave Brisbane at 9.35am on August 31.

Impulse's inaugural Sydney-Brisbane flight departs Sydney at 7.25am tomorrow.
