TAS: Tasmanian Liberals promise action
HOBART, Aug 13 AAP - The Tasmanian Liberal Party today promised prompt action on what'sunderstood to be a highly critical report on its structure and performance.
National director Lynton Crosby's report was discussed at a meeting of the state parliamentaryparty on King Island.
Mr Crosby wrote the bulk of the report after the Liberals again failed to win a TasmanianHouse of Representatives seat at the last federal election and added to it following theJuly 20 state election when the Liberals lost three seats.
Liberal leader Rene Hidding said it was clear from the report that the party's fortunesrelied heavily on the performance of its state MPs.
"We all accept the challenge and commit to lead the Liberal Party back to politicalprominence," Mr Hidding said.
"We will respond to the report in detail, addressing our responsibilities, within amatter of weeks, not months."
State president Doug Chipman said he expected the report to be released on Friday.
Mr Chipman said a special meeting of the state executive and policy committee wouldbe held on September 21 to go through Mr Crosby's recommendations and come up with anaction plan.
