QLD: State road toll still one
BRISBANE, April 5 AAP - Major highways to the north and south of Brisbane were carrying
heavy traffic tonight as holidaymakers returned from the Easter break, but police said there
were no major holdups.
The road toll for the Queensland Easter weekend remained at one, following the death of a
cyclist near Bundaberg early today.
Police said the man, aged 31, (corrects earlier) had been struck by a passing vehicle.
His name was not released tonight.
The official Easter holiday period ends at midnight tonight.
Earlier today, a woman in her 20s received face and leg injuries in a two-car accident on
the Bruce highway at Gunalda, about 150 km north of Brisbane.
A spokesman for the Energex Rescue Helicopter service said the woman, who was driving one
of the vehicles, had to be freed from the wreckage before she was flown to the Nambour
hospital.
The accident, just before midday, closed the highway for almost two hours.
