NSW: man dies in car accident on F6 in Wollongong

Four police officers managed to free a man from a burning car before it exploded on
the F6 Freeway at Wollongong, south of Sydney, early this morning.

But the man died at the scene from injuries suffered when the southbound late model
Subaru sedan crashed into a concrete barrier and burst into flames at around 4.45am (AEST).

Acting Inspector KEVIN SAVAGE of Wollongong Police has paid tribute to the four officers'
bravery.

The accident blocked southbound lanes on the F6 near Mt Ousley Road and caused morning
traffic delays.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are continuing.
